South Carolina Business Law Handbook

Buxton & Collie, LLC is pleased to announce the South Carolina Bar’s publication of South Carolina Business Law Handbook: A Practical Guide for Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Their Counsel. The principal authors are Brian M. Collie, James T.H. Buxton and Nathan D. Johnson, all with Buxton & Collie, LLC.

The Handbook is geared towards business owners as well as attorneys. It includes practical application of business law concepts, highlighting basic legal strategy for lawyers and business owners through a “Q&A” and “Practice Pointer” format throughout the chapters.

The Handbook provides a broad overview of legal and regulatory topics impacting businesses of all sizes in South Carolina and serves as a foundational resource for business owners and the attorneys who advise them. Included is information on topics such as initial business formation and tax considerations, corporate governance, business licenses, real estate considerations for business owners, basic employment law considerations, intellectual property, workers’ compensation rules, securities considerations, buying and selling a business, and dissolution and termination.

The principal authors, along with other attorneys who contributed to the publication, will be presenting a CLE course on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the South Carolina Bar Conference Center in Columbia. More information can be found on the SC Bar’s website, www.scbar.org.
